| Aniline |
A colorless oily liquid made
from coal tar used in making dyes and resins in organic
synthesis. |
| Burnish |
This finish develops a surface
with a look of depth. It is accomplished by actually
burning the finish on the leather using high heat caused by
friction. |
| Cowhide |
Term specifically applied to
leather made from hides of cows. A top-grain
cowhide. Durable leather guaranteed to provide years of
wear. |
| Distressed |
Leather that is aniline dyed
through with a contrasting pigment applied to the surface.
This is then lightly buffed away providing a distressing or aged
look. |
| Embossing |
The process by which a graining
pattern is added to leather by pressure resulting in a uniform
imitation grain. |
| Grain |
The outer surface of the hide or
skin. |
| Full
Grain |
Leather in its natural state
possessing all of its imperfections such as insect bites, folds
in the skin, small scars, ticks from fencing, etc. Our
"Premium" full grain leather has a minimum of these
imperfections, it is the genuine grain texture of the
hide. Full Grain is not to be confused with "Top
Grain" which literally means what is on "Top" of
the leather, like embossing the finish. |
| Leather |
A hide, or skin, that has been
tanned into a non-perishable material. |
| Nubuck |
Name for leather that has a
velvety touch achieved by light brushing and buffing. A
brushed, grain-sueded leather. |
